A brief note on "about" wannabegeek

wannabegeek "what's that all about" ? I've heard people say, (not so many really)  well I'll let you know.

I was a very late starter in to computing and indeed up until August 24th 2001 I hardly new how to switch I on, I'm not joking its true, and I know it was August 24 because its the day after may birthday (incidentally it was my 41st). This was the day that really changed my life.

I was painting the walls in the hall when the package arrived from Tiny ( wish I knew then what I know now) valued at £1200 and a promise to an upgrade to XP I was on my way.

So here we are five years later and all I've really managed to is identify that I don't know much about computers, I know considerably more than I did, but nothing compared to what some guys know.

I not being negative about it, I see this as the wonder of all things computing, you just learn one thing and that makes you realise you need to know this , this and this before you can do that, there's always more and that’s what I find fascinating, always knowing something can be improved, developed or just changed to do the same thing a different way. brilliant.!!

There's a little bit more to wannabegeek than that but not much, I'm a time served engineer I added to my qualifications at the same time I was learning computers, in fact it this reason I bought a computer, I was in a dead boring job, no disrespect to the company I worked for, they are just a small investment foundry and my job was quality control. They manufactured small automotive parts by the thousand so you can guess the nature of the beast. This is what prompted me to go to college to study Mechatronics and duly 4 year later I emerged with a 2:1 hon’s degree from Glasgow Caledonian University.

This is where I realised, that had I been able to do ,when I left school, what most can with computers, I probably would have been a geek, but for now It's just

wannabegeek
