Today Microsoft finally released their Xbox Live companion app for Windows Phone 7 which coincides with the latest dashboard update. However, Microsoft also gave us a little unexpected surprise, they also decided to release an app for iOS as well as Windows Phone 7 today.

It’s called My Xbox Live, and the iOS app is optimized for both iPhone and iPad. But as is to be expected, the app is a bit more limited than the Windows Phone app. It will let you read and send messages, edit your profile, update your avatar (but not all clothing is available), manage your friend list, as well as keep an eye on your achievements and those of your friends. The biggest problem though – there doesn’t seem to be any push notifications what so ever.

Of course the  Windows Phone app, has a much more integrated experience and a few more features packed into it.You’ll be able to search for games, music and movies available through Xbox Live, and view second screen information while you’re using your console. The interface is a lot like Windows Phone 7, albeit without the tiles. It’s actually quite reminiscent of the new Windows 8 Metro UI.

The big advantage Windows Phone 7 has is that its games can actually integrate with Xbox Live. If you play games on your phone, you can till earn achievement points, access your Live friends list, add to Live leaderboards, and so on. On the other hand, the iOS doesn’t support any games what so ever
