Authors: GGarza Posted on Windows 7 News & Tips Hacking has been a problem for many years, and Microsoft along with other security partners have making moves to thwart its operations. They’ve gone after botnets, chased down virus and worms, and Microsoft has even made one of their security products freely available to the public. That is the Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). Testers Wanted To make the effort more public, and bring attention to how important it is to have anti-virus software installed on a PC or laptop, Microsoft made a call for testers of the Microsoft Security Essentials product. Earlier in November, the MSE team put out a call for testers interested in test-driving a new version of Microsoft’s free anti-virus/anti-malware client. On November 29, those testers received notification that the new MSE beta bits were ready for download from the Microsoft Connect site. That is good news because as testers have operational experience with the product they can report their findings and experiences, whether good or bad back to the MSE team. That means that the new version of the product will be available for download sooner. Forefrone Endpoint Security MSE is like the Forefront Endpoint Security product. It is based on the same engine that its paid Forefront Endpoint Security product uses, which is the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007, Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 provides consolidated tools, processes, and infrastructure to create new efficiencies and lower desktop ownership costs. It also provides a unified view of configuration and security information that makes it easier to identify and remediate vulnerabilities Conditions for MSE MSE is free software and developed expressly for users who either couldn’t or wouldn’t pay for antivirus/anti-malware software. Apparently, Microsoft considers that it is more important to stop malware from spreading, so it is offering this product as a way to keep PC’s from becoming malware servers. There is no registration required, no trials with an expiration date or required renewals for previous MSE releases but it only works on PCs running Genuine authenticated Windows products.
