Authors: Mike Halsey (MVP) Posted on Windows 7 News & Tips We’ve only just had Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” rolled out but now Microsoft have released another ‘minor’ update to their smartphone operating system. The new update, v7.10.7740 (Mango was 7.10.7720) has now begun distribution and fixes a couple of minor issues. The first fix is how Windows phone works with Exchange Server. Microsoft say the fix includes the original message in a forward or response when you send or reply. The second minor fix addresses a “voicemail notification issue”. The update, which was reported by NeoWin and has yet to be announced on the official Windows Phone blog will go through the usual channels for updates which means it will first go to handset manufacturers and then carriers for compatibility checks before being rolled out to all end-users. Microsoft seem now to be taking a much more aggressive and, frankly, responsible stance to their smartphone operating system, addressing many of the problems that afflicted business users when the devices first appeared a year ago. There is still no sync with Outlook however which is a sticking point for people who have email, contacts and calendars in old PST files that they want to migrate to the phone, and to the cloud. While some services that can perform this task do exist, it’s an oversight that affects all the major smartphone platforms and is still one of the most common complaints from users and people looking to migrate to the platform. The update has yet to appear on Microsoft’s Windows Phone Where’s My Update website, but should appear there before long to help users get a good idea of when they can expect to receive it.
